Mika Säily (FIN)

Mika Säily is a Finnish professional drummer and educator whose career began in 1979, emerging from the Punk Rock and Heavy Metal scenes. Over the decades, he has developed a versatile voice as a performer, with a strong focus on jazz and contemporary music.

In 2000, he earned a Pop & Jazz Music Teacher's degree from the Helsinki Pop & Jazz Conservatory. He later completed a Master of Philosophy degree in Musicology at the University of Helsinki, where his master's thesis explored jazz drum comping through an in-depth study of Philly Joe Jones.

Alongside his performing career, Säily has built a distinguished reputation as an educator. He works as a full-time drum teacher at the Helsinki Pop & Jazz Conservatory and Metropolia University of Applied Sciences (formerly Stadia Polytechnic), specializing in drum performance, jazz comping, and modern rhythmic concepts.

In addition to his artistic and academic work, Mika Säily has collaborated with Drumtailor Percussion in the design and development of the 5X drum model.
